Community in the Classroom

This past Friday, April 17, 2026, two of Community’s staff members taught Burbank Elementary School fourth graders a lesson in saving for the future.

Yolanda Solgado and Ann Cleven presented to three fourth grade classrooms about bank accounts, saving for the future, and how to become one of Community’s star savers.

“The kids were so excited to learn more about choices they can make today to save more for tomorrow,” said Yolanda Salgado, a savings counselor at Community Savings Bank. “One student was so excited, her parent called the bank a few hours after we taught the lesson.”

Two of the presentations were in English and one was in Spanish. The bank also passed out goody bags with coupons for students to open up a Junior Savings Account with Community.

“It is important for Community to be active in classrooms in Chicago to teach children about saving,” said Dane Cleven, Community’s president, chairman, and CEO. “We are excited to go back to teaching in the classroom after a break during the pandemic.”
